Charolais cattle were introduced to Kinknockie as a separate venture in December 2008 by Lynwen. Having looked at having a secondary breed for some time, it was felt that the Charolais cattle would complement the Limousin herd and be an added source of income from bull sales. The aim is to build the herd to number 20 cows in order to justify a stock bull.
The Charolais females will undergo a flushing programme during the autumn using bulls including Dingle Hoffmeister, Sackville Adonis and Oldstone Egbert.

Olivia was bought from Neil Massie’s Blelack herd and is a 1998 born daughter of Thrunton Damien out of the Maerdy Victorious cow Blelack Chentille. Having greatly admired the granddaughter who was also purchased, it was felt this mature cow with a proven track record of breeding would be a great foundation for the Medi herd.
Continuing her Welsh roots, Lynwen will give all Charolais calves born to the Medi prefix Welsh names. Olivia’s recent heifer calf is called Eirawen (Snow White in Welsh).

This August 2006 born daughter of Bassingbourn Ralph was greatly admired at Blelack and was bought for her size, natural growth and maternal characteristics. She is out of Blelack Tumbleweed and is a granddaughter of Olivia. Bantam has calved a bull calf Everest by Swalesmoor Bayonet.

Another older cow, this March 1999 born daughter of Balthayock Lombardo out of Blelack jiffy is a huge, powerful cow that was bought with her heifer calf Blelack Danielle at foot.
Danielle is by Cargriff Vicotrious. Parsley has a bull calf Ecosse by Killadeas Legend.
