The commercial cattle enterprise at Kinknockie is geared around supplying the best commercial heifers for use as either breeding females or recipient females for embryo transfer work. We have a range of quality and breeds available of varying ages and are capable of sourcing females from across the UK. Often heifers are bought back from suckler producers who have previously bought Limousin bulls from us.
We run 200 heifers annually, calving them down at two and half years and selling them with calves at foot at Thainstone, Carlisle or privately off farm. In-calf or maiden heifers are also available for sale.
The majority of these heifers are Limousin x British Blue, with a few Charolais and Simmentals cross heifers running as well.
In 2008 trade for Emslies Livestock topped at £3500 in Carlisle for an Angus cross cow suckling a ET-bred pedigree British Blue bull calf. 2009 saw us setting a new centre record at Thainstone when we sold a Charolais cross heifer suckling an ET bull calf sired by Samy out of Pennys Tess for £6000.
Also during 2009, in calf heifer trade topped at £3400 for a British Blue cross Limousin heifer in calf to Bailea Black BMW. That day we levelled £2000 for 18 heifers. The commercial females are currently running with Bailea Black BMW , Saphir and a French-bred unregistered bull Brian alongside the latest addition to the male line up, the British Blue bull Greystone Commander who was purchased in Carlisle in May for 6000gns.
